The Palin mines are known to produce deep rich blues that glow with almost electric fire - as is the case with this rare and prized gem. Valued over Ceylon sapphire Palin sapphire is very rare. As the saying goes where there are rubies there is blood, and where there are sapphires there are tears; with Palin being the historic home of the Khmer Rouge killing fields. Palin is now one of the most heavily land mined areas in the world. Even today, travelers are cautioned to stay on marked roads. The work to remove dangerous land mines is an ongoing effort with the help of the United Nations.
